Alaska Sailing
The best fair-weather saltwater sailing opportunities in southcentral Alaska are out of Homer and Seward. Whittier is the gateway to Prince William Sound (PWS), where the array of wildlife and scenic beauty is unmatched, but PWS is a vast area; running times are longer and the open water is less protected from heavy weather. It also rains more in Whittier.
Of all southcentral ports, Homer is the most protected and affords the most opportunity for anchoring in protected coves, bays and fiords. PAY ATTENTION TO TIDES! the second highest in the world!
There are sailing clubs in Homer and Seward, but only a couple of companies who charter. Sailing Inc. in Seward is the biggest, and provides sailing classes and charters. Homer Sail is no longer in business, so opportunities are limited in Homer. Best bet is to contact the Homer Yacht Club.
In Homer, the Homer Yacht Club hosts a regatta in late June. There web site is: http://www.homeryachtclub.org/
